YOUR BOOK DESERVES
A GREAT DESIGN
“BEAUTY LIES IN THE EYES OF THE BEHOLDER.”
Although a cliché, the above quote is the reason why I start the design process with the reader.
Who are they, and how can I dazzle them?
After all, the point of publishing a book is to get it into the hands of the reader.
Discovering who they are, who they're not, what they like, and what they don't like is as important as the story of your book.
When a reader searches for a book they expect certain design elements related to the keywords they typed into their search engine. A reader who searches for a crime novel will expect to see high contrast images and overpowering sans serif font titles. On the other hand, someone looking for romance would be attracted to soft lower contrast images and beautiful script fonts with matching flourishes. Any design that is outside the expectation of the reader will simply be overlooked.
A book cover design should not only fit the genre of your story, but it should also have an element that sets itself apart from other books in the same category. I work on bringing the uniqueness of the book to the front and center, highlighting its distinctiveness, and capitalizing on its emotion, constantly questioning my work, asking how a reader might think or feel upon seeing the design.
I design covers that embody the essence of the story’s genre while at the same time keeping it distinct enough to demand attention.
The Book Design Guy created a cover that not only captures the essence of what I wanted readers to perceive, but also crafted a scenery that even non mystery readers would be drawn to. I’m so thankful that I found this designer and will continue to use his services for all of my books.

Working with John Gibson has been eye opening and inspiring to say the least. I’ve worked with designers before, but this curtailed way of creating the visual side of our art helped add to the feel of the world in my book.

CUSTOM, EASY TO NAVIGATE, AND AESTHETICALLY PLEASING
Ebook files like EPUB and the Kindle’s MOBI are built on a web based foundation. They are coded in HTML and styled using CSS just like the website you are viewing right now. Because I understand web-design and know the language, my work is truly custom and not just a conversion. They are clean and free of glitches, like inconsistent spacing and font sizes.
I ensure the document is easy to navigate by creating beautiful links and a table of contents that is formatted in the document and embedded in the code to be utilized by the e-reader. Text hyperlinks as well as graphical buttons are used to connect your reader to your other books, your author website, and your email subscriber page.
I utilize various fonts, images, and cascaded styling to provide you with a gorgeous ebook that you can be proud of. Custom headings, beautiful dividers, and elegant paragraphs are not only pleasing to the eye but also look professional.
The work is not just about dazzling book design and fancy layout. It's also about marketing and branding, finding out who your target reader is and creating a book design that will entice them.
BOOK-STYLE TYPOGRAPHY THAT IS BOTH BEAUTIFUL AND LEGIBLE
Because the function of a book is to disseminate the thoughts of the author to the minds of the readers, it needs to be formatted in such a way that makes it easy to read. A properly formatted book must be typeset with the appropriate typographical software (not a word processor) to enhance the reading experience. I design and format books using the best software on the market, ensuring the layout looks professional and reads effortlessly.
It’s the small details that make a great interior design. Maintaining a balance of hyphens and tracking throughout the document reduce uneven text blocking, orphans, and widows. Formatting the text on a baseline grid ensures that leading (line spacing), line width, and font size are the perfect ratio to reduce eye fatigue. Choosing the right font helps to marry the voice of the author to the style of the design. These design choices will help make your book unique, beautiful, and a delight to read.
